This all year long afternoon program in Altoona/Tyrone was made possible with EITC donation from local donors who received Pennsylvania tax credits in return for their donations.
Being an Altoona Area School District student, I receive several opportunities. One opportunity in my school is a program called SCT or School to Career. The program allows students to go into a workforce that he/she plans on attending in the future while also being paid as if it were their real job. In the accepting process of the SCT program, several steps must be completed. After all steps are completed, the SCT student will then be placed at their workplace of their interest. I was chosen to work at Sickler, Tarpey & Associates, and it is a tax office. Although my future career will be in the medical field, the staff members understand that taxes and the medical field are two different fields; they will still compose items that I will need in my future career. While at work, I will scan papers and I will rename the papers on the computer to the correct title. In addition, I have typed letters, this will help in the future for nursing, and I will be able to put information into a computer. I have worked with Microsoft Excel at the office; this future skill is needed for my career. I am honored to be part of this program and also part of Sickler, Tarpey & Associates.
